What is dutch Design?

dutchDesign is an undergraduate field school and research program offered by the School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. This website is the legacy project of the bi-annual research results conducted in the area of design and innovation primarily in the Netherlands, but also Belgium and France, under the directorship of Russell Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Design, SIAT.

dutchDesign is part of a larger research project that has been studying the same phenomena in Italy with the italiaDesign Field School program since 2004. The most significant contribution to the field are the interviews conducted in the Netherlands with leading designers, thinkers, architects and design manufacturers. Each year, the new team builds on the previous year's research. dutchDesign is an open source network that values above all knowledge-share on a global scale.

dutchDesign conducted 18 interviews in the Netherlands in spring 2013 in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Rotterdam, den Haag, Waddinxveen, Eindhoven, and Paris, as well as two prep interviews in Vancouver. In 2011 dutchDesign conducted 16 interviews in Holland and two in Copenhagen with such luminary designers as Gijs Bakker, Dick van Hoff, Jurgen Bey, Richard Hutten, Bertjan Pot, OMA, MVRDV and Jan Gehl.
